What is Neurofeedback?
Neurofeedback, otherwise known as EEG-Biofeedback, is a non-invasive therapy that teaches the brain to function more efficiently and effectively.

Neurofeedback trains healthy neural pathways and networks in the brain to support learning, memory, development and overall cognitive function.

We refer to this process as Brain Training!

Neurofeedback rewards 'desirable' brainwaves using audio-visual feedback in real-time. Over time, this encourages certain brain patterns to predominate and particular neural pathways to strengthen.

A dysregulated brain?
In recent years scientific research has shown that poorly regulated brain activity may lie at the core of many brain-based conditions. When the brain is not functioning at it's best, this can cause a range of symptoms and conditions including anxiety, mood disorders, learning difficulties, ADHD, developmental delay, sleep disturbance and gut dysfunction.

When frequencies in the brain are too fast, too slow or not performing at an optimal level of functioning, this can lead to poor cognitive function. This is where Neurofeedback plays a role in correcting dysregulation and helping the patient on their path to wellness.

How does brain wave activity become dysregulated?
Genetic predispositions, early life adversity and high levels of stress are just a few of the many reasons why someone may express dysregulated brainwaves on their EEG. Thanks to advancements in neuroscience and our knowledge of 'brain plasticity', we now know that the brain is constantly changing and adapting with new experiences. Brain therapies, such as Neurofeedback, can assist the brain towards healthier functioning.
What does a session look like?
Once a comprehensive assessment is performed and treatment goals are established, a client is ready for their Neurofeedback sessions.

A 19-lead sensor cap is placed on the clients' scalp at the beginning of each session. This cap monitors their brain wave patterns and subsequently provides real-time feedback. When the brain activates in a positive way, patients receive a reward through visual or auditory cues. Over time, the brain learns to correct itself and function more effectively.
Scheduled training period:
Our clients require approximately 20 sessions at 30-40 minutes per session.
Sessions are carried out over 10-20 weeks depending on the client.
Clients will then follow a maintenance program where they will slowly reduce the frequency of treatment.
At least 2 qEEG Brain Scans will be recorded and delivered to the client as a Report of Findings, as it is a requirement to measure baseline brain function and ensure treatment progress is achieved and recorded.
It must be noted that Neurofeedback is a learning process. Therefore, it is impossible to predict the number of sessions a client may require in order to change and consolidate brain function.
What do we treat?
There is strong scientific evidence to show that Neurofeedback is effective at treating the following conditions:
-
ADHD Inattentive / Hyperactive subtypes
-
Depression
-
Anxiety
-
Trauma
-
Emotional / Behavioural conditions
-
Learning difficulties
-
Brain rehabilitation

Intensive Treatment
We treat clients from all major cities around Australia who visit us for intensive treatment.
We welcome any new clients from interstate, as an intensive Neurofeedback program offers people an effective alternative to the usual twice-weekly sessions. For more information, please send any enquiries to info@studiochiro.com.au
